Wiltshire-based E.J. Shanley & Son is a third-generation, family-run waste-management business with deep roots in the local recycling industry.
Led by Terry Shanley and supported by his children Paul, Andrew, Keelan, and Cymberly, the company operates two sites in Trowbridge and Warminster, processing mixed construction and commercial waste every day. With decades of experience, the Shanley family is known for their forward-thinking approach to recycling and sustainable resource recovery.
The Challenge
E.J. Shanley needed to increase productivity and material recovery while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability. As volumes of incoming waste grew, their goal was to handle up to 40 skips per day, achieving faster throughput and cleaner separation, without increasing labour or downtime.
The company required a robust, easy-to-operate, mobile solution that could integrate seamlessly into their busy operation and help them expand into processing a wider variety of materials.
The Kiverco Solution
Following a successful on-site trial, E.J. Shanley invested in a Kiverco FT620 Feeder Trommel and Kiverco PS122 Picking Station, supplied by Finlay Plant SW, part of the Finlay Group.
The two machines form a compact, high-performance system that delivers static-plant power with mobile freedom, giving the business the flexibility to process more waste, more efficiently.
FT620 Feeder Trommel
- Fully enclosed drum screen for reduced noise and dust.
- Interchangeable screen media for quick configuration changes.
- Robust design ensures consistent throughput and minimal downtime, embodying Kiverco’s commitment to more uptime and longer useful life.
PS122 Picking Station
- Insulated cabin with PVC windows and optional air conditioning for operator comfort.
- Two to six sorting bays with manual and magnetic separation.
- Integrated variable-speed fan blower for removing light contamination — delivering higher sustained purity.
Together, these machines allow the Shanley team to efficiently sort, separate, and recover materials including wood, stone, and ferrous metals, all while maintaining high output rates and consistent quality.
The outcome
Since commissioning the Kiverco plant, E.J. Shanley & Son have seen significant productivity gains at their Trowbridge site. The equipment now processes waste from up to 40 skips per day, running 8 hours a day with a five-person team.
The operation is faster, cleaner, and more efficient. The team reports improved comfort and simplicity in daily use.
We had it out on trial and it never left the site as we found it so much easier to go through skips and separate the material.
It’s been so simple to learn how to use and it’s a brilliant addition to the business.
The future is recycling, and I think we can do far more with this plant and move into processing different materials.
